After meeting with nutritionist Tracie Hittman, I was surprised to learn about gelatin, something I have never heard anyone talk about before. I learned there are 2 different types of gelatin: hydrolyzed and non-hydrolyzed. Hydrolyzed will dissolve in any liquid, where non-hydrolyzed needs hot water added to dissolve completely. I use the hydrolyzed form mixed into Simply Orange Juice, but need to start adding it to other beverages, cottage cheese or yogurt.
Facts:
• complete protein containing 5-6 grams of protein per tablespoon
• anti-inflammatory
• 100% pure soluble protein
• there are 18 different amino acids in collagen
• easy to digest
• it has no taste
• you can add it to beverages, yogurt, soups, etc.
Recommendation:
Tracie recommends starting off with 2 T per day mixed in any liquid pure fruit juice or soft food. After your body gets use to it, Tracie said you could consume up to 4-6 T per day, especially if you have intense workouts, are an athlete or have severe joint pain. Call and talk to Tracie about this if you have questions: 608.213.2021.
